The GOP's "pre-Dubai" mentality

Incredible. The GOP had to jump ship on the White House port sales for two reasons: Democratic opponents were right to call into question the running of US ports by a corporation owned by a government with ties to terrorism. Second, they've invested such a huge amount of their credibility on promoting fear of the Middle East that they pissed off their own fanatical base.

But that didn't stop the Republicans from shooting down yet another (what is this, four, five times?) bill to boost port security.

From Think Progress (who have the specifics in their post):

Moments ago, the House of Representatives narrowly defeated an amendment proposed by Rep. Martin Sabo (D-MN) that would have provided $1.25 billion in desperately needed funding for port security and disaster preparedness.

EVERY Democrat and the lone Independent voted for it. Plus twelve Republicans. Leaving the bill two votes shy of passage.

But let me guess-- port security is nothing more than a calculated 'Democratic stunt' to make the White House look bad.
