New pictures of the treatment of prisoners in Abu Ghraib broadcast on Australian TV this week, and Salon has obtained the material.
The right-wing spin: it's irresponsible for the media to show these images because it can hurt the troops.
The heart of the matter: doing this to prisoners hurts our troops. Covering it up makes it worse.
I remember leaving my apartment one day during college and seeing a kid smash a glass lantern at the entrance. Another child, presumably his sister, saw me and immediately chastised the little whippersnapper: "Now look what you've done-- that guy saw you." Same idea. The problem is that the girl wasn't bothered by the vandalism, but by being caught.
And yes, Salon has photos. Hence the tasteless title of the post.
