O'Reilly caught in the ultimate lie

God bless Crooks and Liars for their site, which gives us access to the best of the week's video. Witness this astonishing example of Bill O'Reilly shamelessly cutting a video clip to misrepresent Democratic Senator Joe Biden''s position, ignoring the Democrat's actual policy, then adopting the Democrat's policy himself. As I've stated, my Republican friends tell me that they disregard the likes of O'Reilly as hacks. But this is the face of the GOP that the public sees, and I never hear any criticism of these hacks from them. At the same time, they laugh off Al Franken as just as much of a hack. Here's concrete evidence that they're dead wrong. This is genuinely an outrage-- bordering on criminal. And absolutely nothing will be done about it. As Franken states, it's astounding.

Here's the video (from the aforementioned site, which you need to bookmark), a must-see for those with a cable modem:

The link above will take you to a text version of the story from Franken's site, also a must-read. The fact that this sort of thing doesn't bother Republicans in the least is a shining example of how shamefully low their party has sunk. But what do I know? I'm just a liberal elitist from rural Missouri, who grew up doing liberal elitist things like fish, camp, and attend Boy Scout meetings.

I decided that Senator Biden should be urged to act against this calumny. You can write to him at this address: senator@biden.senate.gov

Here's the text of my letter:

It is my sincere hope that you will demand-- at the very least-- a retraction from Fox News and Bill O'Reilly for their shameless (and almost undoubtedly intentional) misrepresentation of your stance on the detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

After cutting the segment of your recent appearance with George Stephanopolous-- in which you pointed out your support for the establishment of an independent commission to investigate reports of abuses at said facility, and your proposition of legislation to that effect-- so that it seemed as though you actually favored the immediate shutdown of the Cuban facility, host Bill O'Reilly then went on to argue in favor of your position. Even though your interview was presented in such a light as to lead viewers to believe that you did not hold the position that you, in fact, do.

No, writing letters isn't much fun, but it's the way to get things done. And you can do it in about five minutes-- much less time than attending a march.
