Defending Dean

Howard Dean is getting flak from all sides for saying that the GOP is primarily a party of white Christians. To many of us, this has been obvious for decades. And it's no surprise that foam-mouthed rightie pundits are screaming about it, since they're loyal party lapdogs. The strange thing is how many Democrats in Congress are berating Dean for his statement.

That it needs to stop immediately is the concensus of the blogs, and I couldn't agree more. Daily Kos has a fantastic compilation of facts that show just how right Dean (and the rest of us) are. A snippet:

Of 3,643 Republicans serving in the state legislatures, only 44 are minorities, or 1.2 percent. In the Congress, with 274 of the 535 elected senators and representatives Republican, only five are minorities - three Cuban Americans from Florida, a Mexican American from Texas and a Native American senator originally elected as a Democrat.

'President Bush's home state leads the way. Texas, with a minority population of 47 percent, has 106 Republicans in the state legislature, but there are 0 blacks and 0 Hispanics among them,' Sperling writes.

Yes, it's definitely time for wimpy Dems to shut the hell up and let Dean do his job. Especially when he's doing it well. Hear me, you weenies? SHUT UP!!
