Welcome once again to the school of sickeningly ironic NewSpeak. This time it's about cities providing free Internet hot spots to the public. Pretty neat, huh? Access for all, rich and poor alike. Well hold on, there, pardner, 'cuz that's just the sort of thing your Republican sheriffs are out to stop. Because they're incredibly evil.

A Texas Congressman has introduced a bill that impose a nationwide prohibition on municipally-sponsored networks.

Dubbed by the Author, Representative Pete Sessions (R-Texas), the Preserving Innovation in Telecom Act of 2005, the bill prohibits state and local governments from providing any telecommunications or information service that is "substantially similar" to services provided by private companies.

I suspect I'll still have plenty of fire in my belly when the next elections roll around. These guys have to be stopped.
