ABC presents: The Smug

That's small-s smug. No offense to Smug. The Note is usually described as a "Beltway insider's blog" that provides an irreverent yet informed look at what the Washington press corps is gabbing about. The last time I mentioned the page here was when they ran something idiotic, then reacted to blogger criticism by saying something along the lines of 'Ha! We were running something idiotic just to see if you'd criticize us for it! You walked right into our brilliant trap!'

But the site continues to demonstrate that what the DC press is talking about is whatever Karl Rove wants them to:

As is always the case with the out-of-power party, Democrats have to root root root for bad news. And no bad news source is better for the Democrats' election prospects than the bad news from Iraq.

The assertion that anyone is hoping for more death, corruption and incompetence in Iraq is offensive, sure, but more pitiful than anything else. As hip, irreverent comedy, it ranks up there with "Nope, no WMDs under the Barcalounger."

And it certainly does nothing to change my opinion that the DC press corps includes a disturbingly large number of arrogant and lazy hacks who think that their job title makes their commentary worthy, rather than the other way around.
