Right-wing pundits beginning to murmur about Democratic vets

A Vietnam veteran with impeccable credentials has announced that he's leaving the Republican party and running for the US Senate in Virginia. You might also be familiar with what's become known as the "Fighting Dems" movement in the blogosphere, which seeks support for veterans returning from the Middle East and running for office. There doesn't seem to be a right-wing equivalent.

And it's making some righties nervous. As a writer for National Review notes, "the Republicans can't afford to lose such people." By such people, he means good ol' boys who've flocked to the GOP ranks in recent years (and he speaks of them in a very elitist way, I might add).

And he's right. The GOP has crapped on them just as much as it has every other non-wealthy demographic in the nation. Is that fear I smell? I think I like it.
