Reps call on Pentagon to explain Miller's security clearance
I stick with national news as a rule, but as a native Missourian I can't help but take interest in what's happening back home. And this is interesting. Representative Ike Skelton is coming up on 29 years in the House of Representatives, and there's about a 90% chance you haven't heard of him. You probably wouldn't call him a terribly distinguished man, but aside from being aggressively anti-choice he has a fairly good record. However, he's in the crosshairs of some progressive grassroots groups. Perhaps because he's 73 years old more than anything else.
Anyway, I'll get down to the issue. Representative John Conyers (aka Mr. Awesome) sent a letter to Rumsfeld asking him to explain how an ostensibly independent journalist (Judith Miller, duh) earned a security clearance-- seeing as how that involves signing an agreement that prohibits disclosing confidential information. Ike Skelton co-signed the letter, and I'd love to find out why. I'm no journalist, and I'm sure not an investigative journalist, but I'm going to try and get some information on this over the course of the week. Stay tuned.
