"World stunned" as sole superpower watches citizens die.
The world has watched amazed as the planet's only superpower struggles with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, with some saying the chaos has exposed flaws and deep divisions in American society.
World leaders and ordinary citizens have expressed sympathy with the people of the southern United States whose lives were devastated by the hurricane and the flooding that followed.
But many have also been shocked by the images of disorder beamed around the world -- looters roaming the debris-strewn streets and thousands of people gathered in New Orleans waiting for the authorities to provide food, water and other aid.
We're living under an administration that's rotten. There's no other word for it. Even as we watch the government make flailing, half-assed attempts to save lives (the lives of "red-staters" no less!), Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist announces that he'll push for the repeal of the estate tax next week. That way the press won't be watching, right? It's our duty to make sure that the press IS watching. Write your local paper, call your elected representatives, and otherwise raise a stink in any way that you can. The Republican party is STILL calling for tax cuts in the face of a war on two fronts and a domestic crisis of unprecendented proportions. The nation cannot stand for their continued insistence on leading us down the road to fiscal disaster.
