Hackett fundraising goal reached. Plus how it played on the blogs.

Wow. His campaign was hoping to raise another $30,000 today to fund a massive get-out-the-vote drive for tomorrow's election. They took in $40,000. This was in large part thanks to action on the part of the liberal blogs and the so-called 'netroots.' And in teeny-tiny itty-bitty part thanks to me. Hooray for me!

Hackett was on the Ed Schultz show today, and sounded great: genuine, optimistic, and a living example of a man who's self-made, patriotic, and fully aware that it's the Democratic party that's looking out for working-class Americans. The best part was when Schultz asked him if he had any poll results. Hackett's response was that he has made it a point not to spend one penny of his campaign money on pollsters.

His opponent, Jean Schmidt, is a walking White House talking point who looks like Emperor Palpatine and has ties to all the crooked Ohio politicos under investigation for ripping off taxpayer money. Of course, the emperor didn't feel compelled to display a prominent dead-soldier button in every photograph. Soooo tacky when she's running against a man who survived combat in Iraq. But don't take my word for it:

Yup. The face of the GOP candidate that caused Washington Republicans to dump some $275,000 into her campaign so that she could "bury" a veteran. Yech.

Keep your fingers crossed. I poked around some major right-wing blogs and they have zip to say about this race, in spite of the fact that it's in a solid red district. A definite indicator of worry on their part....

UPDATE: Just caught this post on MyDD, which gives a nice recap of Hackett action on the blogs to date. Excellent reading that shows just how the liberal blogs are practicing what they preach and inspiring action on the part of progressives around the country. It should be encouraging to those who think that bloggers can't make a difference. And that there wasn't a right-wing eqivalent to the blog effort on Hackett's behalf that raised around $70,000. Take a look and go to sleep with a smile on your face.
