You too will meet the secret police

Creepy stuff. It's all reminiscent of a return to Nixon-era paranoia and the misguided abuse of power to infilitrate "dangerous groups" like the parents of soldiers killed in Iraq. This is totally insane.

The California National Guard doesn't just protect Orange County beaches. It also spies on American citizens, including a tiny Mother's Day peace march in Sacramento organized by families of slain American soldiers. The special intel unit handed "broad authority" to monitor homegrown heretics was established by Maj. Gen. Thomas Eres, who resigned this month amid allegations that he "failed to prove his shooting skills for a trip to Iraq, set up a questionable military flight for a Republican friend's political group and improperly used money meant to stem the flow of drugs for anti-terrorism programs," the San Jose Mercury News reported. During Vietnam the Army infiltrated elementary school Halloween parties in search of dissidents. Now these creepy theatrics have fallen to an already over-stretched Guard.

(Dead Kennedys reference in the title, there.)
