Corny senator goes bananas

Texas senator John "Who?" Cornyn has the blogs in an uproar over his strange statements on the senate floor seemingly making excuses for people who assault judges. Here's what he said:

"I don't know if there is a cause-and-effect connection but we have seen some recent episodes of courthouse violence in this country. Certainly nothing new, but we seem to have run through a spate of courthouse violence recently that's been on the news and I wonder whether there may be some connection between the perception in some quarters on some occasions where judges are making political decisions yet are unaccountable to the public, that it builds up and builds up and builds up to the point where some people engage in - engage in violence."

The link above is to a Daily Kos roundup of how liberal blogs (including Congressman John Conyers) are reacting. Personally, this doesn't strike me as a big deal. So another fanatical red stater his his nose up Bush's ass. He's just spouting the latest talking point in classic 'suggestion' fashion. You know, "I'm not saying Matt Sandwich is a cocaine smuggler with ties to the Casa Nostra, but some people are saying that." In this case, I'd say the blogs are over-reacting a bit to a no-name senator. It's pretty small potatoes compared to a lot of other administration outrages.

You can see a video of Corny's statement at Think Progress.

UPDATE: Just in case you wanted some sprinkles on this cone, I happened across an article from the Texas Observer that shows Cornyn to be right at home in the current neo-fascist GOP. According to the author, Cornyn the college student was a staunch advocate of George Wallace back in the late 60s. Here's the link:
