Blog's manipulated video makes the right-wing media rounds
I almost wrote a post about the far-right Powerline blog's laughable manipulation of a quote by Democratic Rep. John Dingell after it appeared on Think Progress.
What he said:
Q: You’re not against Hezbollah?
DINGELL: No, I happen to be — I happen to be against violence, I think the United States has to bring resolution to this matter. Now, I condemn Hezbollah as does everybody else, for the violence.
What the Powerline video showed:
Q: You’re not against Hezbollah?
DINGELL: No.
There you have it. And in keeping with the Soviet-era propaganda techniques that have served them so well, prominent reactionary hacks passed it on as truth. The Washington Times ran with it (later apologizing), and Crooks & Liars has video of Keith Olbermann calling out Rush Limbaugh for doing the same.
We've seen it a million times from the right: 1) Let someone else do the lying. 2) Spread the lie far and wide by citing it as a 'news source.' 3) When caught, claim that you're the victim.
