Happy day after SOTU day!

Naturally, today is let's-cover-the-SOTU day in every outlet. Air America, the blogosphere, news mags, you name it.

The highest compliment I've heard paid? He carried himself well and didn't stumble.

Otherwise, he verdict is unanimous. And this online-only article from The New Republic sums it up rather nicely. Especially considering its author, Ryan Lizza, who has been one of the loudest pro-DLC voices at the magazine in recent memory.

One more bit of armchair analysis from me. The president's bit about "addiction to oil" and suggestion that we throw a bean in the mouth of that particular lion (to paraphrase Boccaccio) shows that the White House is seriously worried about the ramifications of energy policy on their future as the ruling party-- and they're already under attack from the right-wing Competitive Enterprise Institute on that one. Which means that it's time for the Dems to start loudly calling for an 'alternative energy initiative' that will reduce our dependency, create jobs, improve science standards in the country, and keep us at the forefront of technological innovation.
