Writing History

Everyone knows the old saw about history being written by the victors. The admiistration put its typically Stalinist take on that idea today with Fearless Leader's use of a Veteran's Day speech to attack critics of his policies. And, of course, to suggest that those critics are attempting to "re-write history" in claiming that we were lured into war on false premises and carefully-manipulated intelligence.

Condi Rice did her part today by repeating the mother of all Iraq talking points: everyone thought that Saddam had a WMD program up and running:

I think that Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction programs were fully expected to be there by everyone who knew anything about the program or knew anything about his history of having used weapons of mass destruction against his own people, his insatiable appetite for them, the UN sanctions against him. And it was not just this Administration that thought that he had weapons of mass destruction and that talked about those weapons of mass destruction. Nobody was willing to give Saddam Hussein the benefit of the doubt.

This is, of course, an utter fabrication. The White House was the sole source of claims that Saddam had an arsenal in 2003. Doubters and critics were ignored or-- whenever possible-- given their walking papers. Hopefully that old saying is true-- because this administration is the biggest bunch of losers in presidentail history. And losers don't write the history.
