Greetings from Cloud Cuckooland! Wish you were here!
October was the fourth deadliest month for American troops since the invasion of Iraq. So you can see why right-wing magazine National Review sees that as evidence of remarkable progress. After all, we've "learned the art of counterinsurgency," whatever the hell that means. I never really thought of war as art, myself. As a liberal, I naturally consider art to be all about dunking crosses in jars of urine and burning American flags. But defninitely not, you know, killing dozens of people in suicide bombings. That's just plain tacky.
You have to admire them for their rose-tinted glasses and purple-tinted fingers (In fact, they still have a picture of a smiling Iraqi woman brandishing her purple finger on their homepage) , but there's something to be said for acknowledging reality, too. They've also dubbed this Iraq "good news" week. Those quotation marks are theirs, and not intended to be ironically comedic. It's been eleven hours since they announced this festive celebration, but no stories yet. I'll keep an eye on it so that you don't have to.
I should also mention that their site is drowning in ads, to the point where it's tough to tell their actual content from the paid promotions. Pitiful.
