Using al Qaeda to boost the GOP
Salon points out something interesting about the capture of al Qaeda operative Abu Farraj al-Libbi in Pakistan. That's the good news. The bad news is that the announcement might have been timed by this administration. Just like a similar arrest was made public during a critical moment of the 2004 presidential race.
After all, top Pakistani officials can't seem to agree on when he was captured:
"As the Times report notes, there have been conflicting accounts as to when and how Libbi was apprehended. A Reuters report quoted the Pakistani interior minister, Aftab Sherpao, as saying Libbi had been arrested a few days ago. Pakistani information minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, however, maintained that the arrest came only Tuesday, contending that Pakistani authorities could not have concealed the capture of such a senior figure for more than a day."
