BUSH PUT IN BUNKER
PRESIDENT Bush went to his bomb-proof bunker and his deputy Dick Cheney was airlifted out of Washington as snipers took up positions.
An anti-aircraft missile battery was raised on a roof close to the White House while a Black Hawk helicopter was scrambled.
But the alarm was triggered by a freak cloud.
Details of the alert emerged yesterday, two days after radar monitors tracked the dense patch heading for Washington.
It was picked up on the Domestic Events Network - designed to prevent a repeat of the 9/11 attacks.
The White House said the all-clear was sounded 20 minutes after the scare.
