China criticizes U.S. on human rights

That's the sort of headline that we feared we'd see under a second Bush administration. And it's come to pass. The US policy on torture was decried by progressives and applauded by fools. Sorry, dupes of the right, but we weren't being pansies-- we were being prescient. And China is just going to be first on the heap. Any country that has its own repressive policies will now feel free to use the "America did it, too" argument. And sadly, they'll be right. Sanctioning torture isn't saving us from terrorism any more than it saved Europe from witches. But it has cost the US any right to justly accuse anyone else of having a bad human rights record.
