Why is Bush such a dick?

Way back when, Bush testily reacted to a reporter who accidentally called him 'Sir,' instead of the usual 'Mr. President' by demanding "Who're you talking to?"

In another fit of pique, the Boy King "jokingly" dressed down a reporter for wearing sunglasses while talking to him:

President Bush needled Los Angeles Times reporter Peter Wallsten after he stood up to ask a question wearing sunglasses. “Are you going to ask that question with shades on?” Bush said, telling Wallsten, “I’m interested in the shade look, seriously.”

As it happens, Wallsten is legally blind. Both reporters were very gracious about the respective incidents. The former apologized immediately ("I'm sorry, Mr. President"), while Wallsten says he has no hard feelings.

When you think of people you know who get all catty over even a perceived slight, do you think of them as strong and resolute-- or hopelessly insecure? I realize this isn't exactly a burning issue. But it is another creepy look into the psyche of a really awful president.

UPDATE: It looks like everyone is pointing to this story. Crooks & Liars has video, and Peter Daou writes about the incident and brings up another-- Bush saying to a wheelchair-bound man, "You look mighty comfortable." Although that's more about stupidity than insecurity.
