Rice: Iraqis heart the US

The arguments that Rice made on the Sunday talking head shows were extensive and incoherent. Orwellian, even. Like the fact that they've been unable to fill key government posts for months proving how 'thoughtful' the selection process has been. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that at some point she used the old chestnut about increased violence proving that the insurgency is desperate and near defeat-- it's been a while since anyone trotted that line out.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Sunday that most Iraqis and their elected leaders want American military forces to stay in their warring country despite allegations of atrocities against civilians by some U.S. troops.

"We have had some bad incidents and there continue to be allegations of others which will be investigated," Rice said on "Fox News Sunday." "But overwhelmingly, American forces there are putting their lives on the line every day, protecting Iraqis, helping to liberate them — that is appreciated by the Iraqi people and by the prime minister."

I think it's safe to assume that the official stance on Iraq will continue to be that it's going brilliantly.
