GOP "lobbying reform" bill squeaks through
The Republican party has shown their tireless committment to cleaning up the quid pro quo Washington environment that has netted, uhhh... Republican politicians millions of dollars, piles of gifts, and any number of posh vacations. Plus the occasional jail sentence. The blockbuster provisions include the following:
*No restrictions on gifts.
*No restrictions on accepting free vacations (actually, they've been 'suspended' until a few weeks after the election)
*No enforcement of previous ethics rules
*No waiting period for leaving members of Congress to become lobbyists
Wow! What a Mr. Smith moment! That famed party loyalty was on proud display as well, with only 19 of the most wretched and traitorous Republicans breaking ranks to vote against the substantive bill. The good news is that only 8% of House Republicans decided to oppose this genuine, gutsy reform. As for the other 92%, I applaud your committment to shaking up the complacent and corrupt Washington establishment, of which the 209 of you are definitely not a part.
