Irony overload: Valerie Plame was working on Iran nuke intel when outed by White House
I'm sure there'll be plenty of reporting on this in the blogosphere, but the gist of it is this statement reported on Hardball just this evening:
Intelligence sources say Valerie Wilson was part of an operation three years ago tracking the proliferation of nuclear weapons material into Iran. And the sources allege that when Mrs. Wilson's cover was blown, the administration's ability to track Iran's nuclear ambitions was damaged as well.
The neo-fascists and their loyal media shills have adopted any number of tactics in the effort to discredit Wilson and his wife, from the deliberate distortion of his claims to the false claims that Plame wasn't covert at all. Fox's John Gibson (he of the stupefying pompadour) went so far as to suggest that Karl Rove should 'get a medal' for outing the CIA agent. Odd, considering that Bush, Sr., referred to the act as treasonous.
Now it looks as though BushCo might have had more in mind than just starting a war in Iraq-- they might have been crippling our ability to gather reliable intelligence on Iran. What a great way to start a war! Acquire dubious 'evidence' of Iran's possession of WMDs while scuttling the real intelligence. Sounds like a winner for Fearless Leader. Especially with those poll numbers.
Crooks and Liars has some video.
