Oooooh, SNAP! Patrick Leahy edition

Salon has a nice clip up from the Daily Show on Attorney General Gonzales' apparent unwillingness to say anything about anything dealing with the patently illegal wiretapping of Americans' communication.

But the real star is Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy, who gives us a tasty hint of what the party could look like if they stand up for themselves a bit more often and, if I may be so bold, follow the Sandwich Doctrine of responding to White House nonsense with withering barbs.

Gonzales: Senator, you're asking me about the operations of the program, and...

Leahy: Of course. I'm sorry, Mr. Attorney General, I forgot you can't answer any questions that might be relevant to this.

His sarcasm makes a pleasant chaser for the bitter ironies of the last few days. But there's more. Gonzales manages to look like the biggest douche this side of Bill O'Reilly as he laughingly bats aside the constitutional notion of three co-equal branches of government.
