GOP Senators speak out against Bush budget

At last some Republicans are starting to realize that the White House's attempts to destroy the New Deal in favor of a new Gilded Age will cost them dearly in future elections. Sure, that's a cynical way of looking at it, but think about this: the budget has been crafted to ensure that the fiscal shit hits the fan after Bush leaves office. He gets to be a right-wing icon, and the next administration is stuck with crippling deficits, education and health care systems in shambles, and corporate leaders who are fat and sassy. Perfect, right? Not for the stooges in the legislative branch who want to have a career that goes beyond 2008. They're going to face a hopping mad electorate and no support from the White House. And the tax-cut mantra isn't going to get them anywhere but the unemployment office. Not to mention that Karl Rove is currently threatening GOP senators who want to investigate Bush's illegal wiretapping program-- the message there is "you're expendable."

Missouri fatcat Kit Bond: Overall, we’re concerned that some of these cuts are really beginning to bite. … [The White House budget office] sits in some isolated cocoon and comes forward with proposals that we don’t think make any sense.

Pennsylvania's Arlen Specter: It is scandalous to provide insufficient funding for our nation’s two greatest capital investments, health and education.

So the Dems now have what Lieberman is always giving Fox News-- examples of Republicans accusing their leadership of scandalous and nonsensical behavior. Start talking it up on the talking head shows, people.
