What to do about Alito now.

Barring some sea change that involves the media realizing that Mrs. Alito's crying jag (and subsequent smiley-faced interviews) really didn't have anything to do with the significance of his nomination, the only thing that will keep Alito from turning the Supreme Court into a vehicle for movement conservatives is a filibuster.

The GOP response is already set up like one of Caesar's camps. They're encamped, they've dug the trenches, and mounted the pikes. No matter that the pikes consist of "But those meanies made her cry!" The defense is all mist and shadows, but in the age of media manipulation, they can still kill.

All that's left, I suspect, is to write senators and express your opposition to Alito. I've already written John Kerry, and I'm about to write Kennedy. As usual, my regret is that I can't write letters to those Democratic senators less inclined to stand strong against the neo-fascists.

Do your part, folks. If you live in a state with Democratic senators, take the time to write a letter. I've provided the link above. I ask that you do two things, which will require a total of less than ten minutes.

1. Pass the link above to your friends and family.

2. Write your own senators to voice support for a filibuster of Alito.

It won't take much time at all, and it just might save the nation from decades under the sway of a Supreme Court that regularly subordinates civil rights to wealth and power.
