KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- Al Gore helped airlift some 270 Katrina evacuees on two private charters from New Orleans, acting at the urging of a doctor who saved the life of the former vice president's son.

The news this morning is that, thankfully, the body count won't be as high as estimates anticipated. The bad news is that the reactionary blogs will undoubtedly be accusing Al Gore of 'politicizing' the disaster. The simple fact is that he spent his own money to save lives.
