My name is [Republican Congressman X]. And I'm a pretend alcoholic.
Apparently this idea played pretty well at the GOP focus group sessions, because Randy "Duke" Cunningham, Ohio's Bob Ney and now alleged pederast Mark Foley have all opted to seek treatment for alcoholism immediately after finding out that their respective gooses were cooked. Maybe someone in the world of TV news should do an expose of how liquor turns fine, upstanding Christian Republicans into pedophiliac extortionists. I didn't know that's how it worked.
In a way, I'm actually proud of Tom DeLay for taking a more traditional approach to making himself a martyr after being caught breaking the law-- the "liberal media" conspiracy theory. And he's not being shy about it-- remember that the title of his upcoming book is The American Passion of Tom DeLay. But, that's 'The Hammer' for ya.
