Just as I suspected... why right-wing blogs are so 'gay.'
It's long been a joke on the progressive blogosphere. There's a strange tendency on the part of right-wing blogs to adopt eerily homoerotic titles and handles. I say eerie, because these are the gay-bashers of the Web. Not to mention your typical pro-war, ass-whoopin' manly men. Except for that whole "sorta queer" thing. The most notorious is Powerline's John Hinderaker, who actually chose the pseudonym "Hindrocket." Then there are the blog titles, like "Anal Philosopher," "Captain's Quarters," (buggery on the high seas, anyone?) "Ankle Biting Pundits," and "Seven Inches of Sense." Even the ads are fruity, teeming with shots of half-naked buff dudes having a workout. Well, there's finally an explanation. And it's just what you might have guessed. The poor little fellas are just scared.
"I found that if you made men more insecure about their masculinity, they displayed more homophobic attitudes, tended to support the Iraq war more and would be more willing to purchase an SUV over another type of vehicle," said Willer said. "There were no increases [in desire] for other types of cars."
Those who had their masculinity threatened also said they felt more ashamed, guilty, upset and hostile than those whose masculinity was confirmed, he said.
